NASHVILLEBelieve in Service, a political action committee founded by Iraq war combat veteran James Mackler to support federal candidates who will protect and expand vital national service programs, has endorsed U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) in her reelection campaign. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Baldwin has successfully worked across party lines to pass vital investments in national service and Wisconsin volunteer programs. Senator Baldwin has also joined the Corporation for National and Community Service to announce tens of millions in grants for Wisconsin AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs across the state.

“Senator Tammy Baldwin believes in service and has spent her career advocating for Wisconsin,” said James Mackler. “While the majority in Washington prioritizes serving special interest donors over service to our nation, we need Senator Baldwin’s voice in the U.S. Senate to protect and expand our vital national service programs like AmeriCorps that provide so many opportunities for service here and abroad. We’re proud to support her reelection.”

“Across Wisconsin, thousands upon thousands of people are answering the call to service, helping bring our communities together and creating new opportunities for our neighbors,” said Senator Baldwin. “We must make sure these Wisconsinites are supported in their missions to make a difference and I’m excited to be joined in this effort by Believe in Service and James Mackler, a veteran whose life work is defined by a selfless drive to serve and help others.”

Unlike the majority in Congress, voters do not view national service as a partisan issue. A survey conducted by Republican polling firm TargetPoint found that 83% of voters want Congress to maintain or increase federal spending on national service programs. The strong bipartisan consensus includes support from 78% of Republicans, 84% of Independents and 90% of Democrats. Economists have found that each dollar invested in national service generates $3.95 in terms of higher earnings, increased output and other community benefits.
